President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to appoint 12 High Court judges very soon, a move that authorities believe will go a long way in fast-tracking cases in courts.
According to Registrar of the High Court Agnes Patemba, proposed names were already submitted to the Judicial Service Commission for the president’s selection.
However, while expressing delight with the development, Patemba has expressed worry saying judiciary has no resources to meet costs for all the 12 judges.
According to Patemba, her department has no spaces for offices, funds to foot security costs as well other resources for the judges.
In this year’s budget, the judiciary has been allocated 11.3 billon against the expected 60 billion.
In reaction, legal affairs and government assurance committee chairperson, Yusuf Nthenda says the Committee will be pushing for an increase in the allocation.
