His Excellency, President Lazarus Chakwera in his capacity as president of the republic of Malawi has appointed leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also Vice President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the South as member of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
Nankhumwa’s appointment follows reconstitution requirement of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 by the President.
For easy monitoring of the pandemic, Chakwera has also established a National Covid-19 Office in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).
“The governance structure for the management of the Covid-19 pandemic will comprise a reconstituted Presidential Task Force and a National Secretariat,” reads the statement in part.

In a related development, Malawi Parliament through the office of the National Speaker,has announced the death of s member of parliament for Karonga Central Constituency, Honourable Cornelius Thomson Mwalwanda who is reported to have succumbed to Covid-19.
