As many of his age mates are busy engaging in immoral behaviours not having anything to do, a fifteen-year-old Isaac Masamba is on the contrary using his time progressively by spending it in curio production.
Masamba who is in standard 7 at Chirimba Primary School attributes his talent to the zeal o his father who he says is the one importing him with the technical know how of the trade which has for many years been a money spinner for a lot of people in the country.
Speaking with VOMI NEWS the young talented young man disclosed that his dream is to grow big in the business which at the moment has been affected by Covid-19 as most of his customers are foreign tourists.
“As I grow in this business, I want to have my own trading place with all working equipments. For now, I do not have enough money to buy all necessary resources I depend on parents to have some materials most especially trees. My father buys some trees from other countries like Tanzania and Mozambique and it is not easy to manage to get them, for example the likes of Simbiti and Korongonja,” he said.
Masamba challenged that he has mastered the skill so much that he is able to make different varieties of objects depending on what is on demand on the market as well as according to customer’s specific needs.
“I make different objects and I am also capable of producing statues though am still perfecting my art so that I should soon get to the point of supporting my family financially,” said the little artist.
Ezekiel Masamba, father to Isaac, said he decided to impart curio making skills to his child bearing in mind that not everyone who goes to school will end up having a good job.
Meanwhile, the young artist has urged his fellow youths to realise their different potentials and use their precious time productively saying it is possible to earn a living through different talents God blessed them with.
