Since the South African government imposed a lockdown order in the wake of coronavirus which causes Covid19 several government businesses have been paralyzed to a point of rendering many departments almost incapacitated.
Last week, almost all the officials in the Malawi mission to the rainbow nation contravened the lockdown order by going about processing their travel documents.
A source close to this publication revealed that it was ironical for them to leave their homes considering that all the diplomats who broke the lockdown order going about processing the their passports have already been recalled.

The Acting Malawi High Commissioner to South Africa , Gloria Bamusi who is wife to former human rights activist, Mabvuto Bamusi now working in government, Consulate General Agrina Gambatula, Malawi Acting High Commissioner to South afirca and George Chilonga an attachee at Malawi Consulate on labour are some of the senior officials who broke the lockdown order.
The source further says Malawi diplomats have failed to be examplary in observing the lockdown considering that the South African security agencies have arrested many people who have contravened the order imposed aimed at control the further spreading of COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is sad that all our senior Consulate officials broke the lockdown order imposed by the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa by going about processing their travel documents, a thing which they can do at home at an appropriate time, even at home when the go,
“You might also be aware that many South Africans have been arrested for failure to comply with presidential order on lockdown and they will appear in court anytime, so it is not in logical for anyone to take advantage of his or her status to flout the rules,” he said.
An official at the Foreign Affairs ministry in the capital, Lilongwe expressed dismay with the development but was quick to confirm that indeed the diplomats are on recall list only waiting for the logistical arrangements for their repatriation.
“It is sad if someone flouted the lockdown order across the Zambezi where government in Pretoria has clearly expressed its total commitment to fight Covid19, but on another note i can confirm that those officials are indeed on government recall list only waiting for their proper repatriation,” He said.
Malawi is yet to finalize a number of issues to do with those working in the diplomatic missions across the globe following the nullification of the 2019, May 19th presidential election results.
