A 33-year-old man Gerald Chale has died over the week- end after taking tomato pesticides due to alleged wife’s ill-treatment.
Facts are that the wife of the deceased who is a teacher at Bua school has allegedly been ill-treating the deceased for a long time to the extent that he was lacking peace.
On June 12, this year at around 20:30 hours, Chale was home alone and decided to take the pesticide (Green Copper) to terminate his life. It is reported that Chale had earlier informed his friend about the issue.
Neighbours were enlightened about the incident and quickly rushed with the victim to Mchinji District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem that was conducted on the body revealed that death was due to organophosphate poisoning.
The deceased hailed from Kuweluza village in the are of Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo.
Mchinji Police is therefore advising communities to patronise Victim Support Unit(VSU) for proper counselling and other services.
