The Malawi Prison Service is reported to have registered tremendous results in the fight against Covid-19.
Prisons Publicist, Chimwemwe Shaba disclosed on Friday when the media wanted to get an update on the progress in the fight against the pandemic.
Shaba said out of 451 in-mates and prison warders who tested COVID19 positive in country’s prisons ,447 have recovered from the disease.
“Today Friday, there are now only four active cases, three at Rumphi prison and one at Mzimba prison which is a clear indication that our prisons are managing Covid-19 cases very well,” Shaba said.
However, Shaba said despite the good news, the Prisons department continues to conduct mass screening at Maula prison and ensuring that all Coronavirus preventive measures are being followed.
Despite registering very small numbers of those testing positive to Covid-19, government on friday announced that 72 new cases were registered.
