In a dramatic twist of events Lecturers and Staff from the country’s constituent colleges have joined primary and secondary school teachers demanding risk allowances from Government come 7th September,2020.

Malawi’s Polytechnic

Educationists from Poly, Chanco, Bunda and MUST which are among public Institutions of higher learning in the country says failure to give them the risk allowances then, they will withhold their services until such a time when their demand will be addressed.

Sources close to this publication have revealed that Managements of these institutions are still interjecting the reopening of schools on Sept 7th.

MUST

A series of meetings have been conducted on the risk allowances issue since August 21st, 2020.

Chanco

This raises fears as to whether indeed public schools in the country will indeed be reopened considering the unresolved issue of risk allowances.

Teachers in the country have been involved in verbal war against journalists and all those who dared making rude comments against their calls for risk allowances in the wake of the novel covid-19 pandemic.

Health workers in the country were already considered on the matter hence being referred to public officers like any others hence an impending standoff in the risk allowances saga.

If this impending industrial action materializes then this will be the first real litmus test for the Tonse Alliance Government which has all along been preaching a heaven on earth to all Malawians during campaign period.

During the reign of Peter Mutharika, primary school learners joined their teachers in demonstrating for better enumeration packages which turned ugly in major cities to a point of inviting the police to throw teargas to disperse the irate young learners.
