VOMI Sponsor A Student In Malawi Initiative

Posted on 26/01/202126/01/2021 by VOMI RADARS

Voice Of Malawi Ireland popularly known as VOMI is an organization, institution, whistleblower, and Social Media Platform for Malawians living in Ireland.

As a leading Malawian organization, VOMI pioneers in various fundraising activities including Projects like “Sponsor a Student in Malawi and Buy COVID-19 Oxygen Cylinders in Malawi.

The VOMI Sponsor a Child in Malawi was initiated in January 2021 by VOMI Founders Henry Phiri and Albert Tambula who work at Craggy and Docks respectively as a channel to reach out to Malawians living in Ireland to help Sponsor a Child back to School in Malawi.

On 5th January, VOMI gathered information that thousands of needy students are looking for support to proceed with their studies.

We then, selected one institution to be targeted namely, ‘Mwatibu Community Day Secondary School’ where we discovered that a few students dropped out because of fees which is €30 for the whole year or €10 per term,
this is the cheapest amount one can pay to access secondary School education in Malawi,

In other institutions, one can pay even “10 TIMES” this amount. €30 is equivalent to 27,900 Malawi kwacha and €10 is 9,300 Malawian Kwacha. In Ireland, €10 can buy a double whopper in Burger King and with €30, can buy a large and a small pizza at Domino’s.

This same amount of money can help a Child to complete their Education at Mwatibu Community Day Secondary school in the remote area of Lilongwe in Malawi and achieve their dreams and goals.

VOMI Admins agreed to use the social media platform to appeal for help from Malawians and other well-wishers. So far, we have collected close to €400 which will cover more than 10 students for the whole 2021 academic Year. We are hoping for better as this project advances.

A special GoFundMe account was created to help source out funds. Those that are not comfortable with the GoFundMe are alternatively supporting through bank transfers.

Thank you so much for your attention and consideration for support.

Albert and Henry
