Health expert and the Blantyre District Health Office have maintained their call that government should introduce laws to make wearing of face masks in public places mandatory.
This reels from the fact that many people are not following the preventive measures that were put in place by government last year to prevent the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to the escalated local transmission rate.
Speaking in an interview with VOMI NEWS, one of the renowned health expert, Dorothy Ngoma said masks may be the only option left to protect people from contracting the virus.

“Wearing of face masks is one of the measures that were put in place by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to be followed in all countries where there is Corona-virus, our government should declare that everyone must, when going everywhere, wear a masks to prevent the further spread as this second wave is hitting hard,” said Ngoma.
Ngoma said people should not doubt about the existence of Covid-19, stressing it is time to follow all the measures so that we should he safe.
However, Blantyre District Director of Health and Social Services, Gift Kawalazira, says local transmission is now a big threat as health institutions, schools, are also registering a high number of positive cases.
“It’s a big threat now, we have observed that even health institutions, where people access medication are now registering cases, this means actually means that a majority of people are at risks.
” It’s time for government to put in place strong measures so that we should prevent the further spread as the second wave is now a disaster,” he said.
