Police at Nkhunga in Nkhotakota are keeping in custody a 36 year old man Wiskes Chikweya for possessing medical drugs without permit.
According to Khunga Police Public Relations Officer, Ignatius Esau, the law enforcement agency successfully managed to arrest Chikweya with assistance from the community members.

“Acting on a tip, our officers on July 30, 2020 raided Chikweya’s shop at Dwangwa trading center where upon conducting a search, the following medical drugs were found and siezed: 176 LA blisters (doses) 883 Indocide capsules, 653 Amoxicillin capsules, 810 Fragyl tables, 1 blister of family planning pills, 575 Bactrim tablets, 132 Diclofenaec blisters, 38 Panado tablets,” Esau said
Esau further said the that during the month of june some unknown criminals broke into Ngala Trading Centre where drugs worthy millions were stolen.
“The arrest of Chikweya comes against a background of a case where unknown criminals between the month of June and July broke into Ngala Health Center where they went away with assorted medical drugs and supplies,” he said
Some of the recovered medical drugs included 1,080 LA tablets, 25,000 tablets of metro, 15,000 tablets of CTX480 and 1,050 sachets of peanut (chiponde)
The suspect hails from Mombo village in Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe District and will appear in court soon.
